Hello everyone...i was wondering if anyone knew of how to go about degaussing an old monitor. My girlfriend has left her radio alarm clock on top of her monitor for a while now, and upon a dusting kick she moved the alarm to find that the top 3rd of her monitor was a deep purple.

The monitor has no manual degausser and no degausser that runs on reboots or when the power is switched on/off. From what I read my best bet was to rig up some electromagnet and move it around the troubled area untill it began to look more normal. If that is the case...how do I go about rigging this up, and are there any tricks to how to do this without messing it up more?

Also, what I was realy hoping for was if anyone knew of some sort of software that i could download and install that would degausse the monitor. Probably not considering it is so hardware oriented, but I figured if anyone would know, this was the place to ask. Thanks a ton everyone and take care.

Monitor = Packard Bell
Model # = 2024S
FCC ID = BJMCM15D

Thanks Again!

If you take a small hammer. and tap the glass a few times on the front of the screen in the area where it is purple, softly tap the glass till the purple goes away. u might have to tap harder and harder. dont worry this wont break your monitor unless u really put some force into it. What it does is there is a electro magnet behind the screen and by taping the screen it pushes that part of the screen towards the magnet and degauss it. Hope this helps

You might want to give a local TV repair shop a call and see how much they would charge to deguass. They have the tool. It would probably be a better idea than spending time trying to do it with a magnet, unless you have the stuff on hand, as you can often make it worse than when you started. I have seen some suggestions on the net that say to take a degaussing wire from an old monitor, but that can be dangerous if you are not familiar with electronics.
Just a thought.

hello
it would only cost you about 10.00 - 50.00 at an honest repair shop to deguse it.
