Am looking to buy a new 17" CRT monitor and trying to decide between a

Mitsubishi Diamondview 1786FD2
http://www.mitsubishi-electric.com.au/

and a

Samsung 753DF.
http://www.samsung.com.au/samsung.asp?cat=51&obj=109

I do a bit of photo retouching and spend lots of time in front of the computer so image quality and eye care are important.

Any help is appreciated.

I would suggest getting the samsung, they make great monitors. I do a lot of AutoCADD and 3d modeling, and I have that same monitor.. its a great monitor.

While I don't have an opinion of which brand, I must say that a 17" monitor is rather small. CRTs are so inexpensive now that a 19" shouldn't be that much more.

If you really spend a lot of time in front of the screen, you might want to invest in a Trinitron flat screen. They are very nice to look at for long periods, although they do cost a bit more.

The new thing is LCD screens, but I'm not too big on them yet. For one thing, I don't think the picture is as good as a Trinitron. And the only affordable models are *very* tiny. Like any new technology, I expect the cost to come down significantly in the near future.

Best Luck, whatever you decide.
