my monitor is missing the red color. i checked the cable connection and noticed that one of the pins has broken off and is stuck in the socket on the back of my cpu. how do i get it out? will i need to bring it in to a repair shop and will it be a complicated job?
as for the monitor cable with the broken pin, it is the kind that is permanently attached to the back of the monitor. can the cable be repaired, or will i have to buy a whole new monitor?
thanks for your help!

It depends. If you can get a pair of tweezers (or I use a suture tool) to grab the back of the pin you should be able to pull it out. From there it depends on your soldering skills, You 'might' be able to repair it. If not, then you may need a new monitor cable. check google.com
I hope this helps. Good luck. :)

Repairing (actually it will need replacing) the monitor connector is not an easy job. It might very well cost more than a new monitor.

thanks for the quick replies.
the pin is really jammed in the socket and it's impossible to pluck it out. might this require opening up the cpu and disassembling the socket, or maybe even replacing it? is that a normal thing that can be done, either by me or a repairman? i'm not an expert when it comes to opening a cpu, but i'll give it a try if it's feasible.

well, if you have any ticky/sticky tac you can see if that might stick to the pin and pull it out, but you may not be happy with the after results on your card.

Try replacing cable with one from a scrap monitor, which has the same connections.
It is easier to connect inside the monitor than replace the plug.
Because of *DANGEROUS* voltages inside the monitor, perhaps this task is best left to your local cheapo electronic repair shop.
Good luck - Keep us posted.
