I have a pretty old (maybe 8 years) Sony Multiscan 17seII Trinitron.
Since a few weeks my monitor quite often blinks each time I right click or use ctrl + x on a file in windows explorer.
I checked my monitor properties and I saw the standard monitor is running on my video card. I checked Sony, but they only have a win95 driver for this monitor which are sold in the USA (I live in Europe).
I installed the latest drivers for my Asus V8990 GeForce 4 Ti 4000 graphics card, but with no luck.
Is my monitor dying on me? What is the average age for a monitor? I have it on for 6 maybe 8 hours a day.

It is probably on its way out.
The average life of a monitor built in the early '90s is probably about 6-8 years.
And the average life expectancy of a monitor built these days is 3-4 years! They don't make 'em like they used to!

Oh, and most monitors work just fine with the default drivers.

I think that even for an older Sony monitor like yours (which was an excellent monitor, BTW), the warranty was three years. That should tell you something

Try reverting your video card drivers to a previous version. a lot of people are having a problem with the latest forceware drivers that causes the monitor to refresh everytime you right-click a video file. My computer has started doing this a couple days ago (a few days after I upgraded the drivers) and older drivers have fixed the problem. Almost everybody had a delay for this to happen, wasn't immediate in the least
