i was wondering if anyone knows where i can get a molex adapter that has a female end on both sides. i need the female to female molex adapter to extend my psu cable. i dont want the molex y adapters just a female to female. just to be clear or if any of you might be confused as to what im talking about, it is the power connecters for the ide dvd/cd drives and hard drives. im trying to connect both males ends together to extend my psu cable. i have an ultra x3 1000w psu with an antec twelve hundred case. when i use my cable to connect the dvd/cd drives it wont reach to the bottom of the case where my psu sits at.

"im trying to connect both males ends together to extend my psu cable."

What both male ends are you talking about. The molex power connectors that power drives are female on the end and connect to a male plug on the drive.

What you need is a male to female extension. Google for Molex extension. Below is one example I found.

Most Y adapters extend the length.

I think I get it. The cables on that power supply aren't hard-wired to its circuit board, they're socketed:

http://www.xoxide.com/ultra-x3-1000...

and the cables that came with it aren't long enough. And you're looking for a cable that plugs into the power supply on one end and the drive cable on the other end. That is, PSU--modified extension cable--drive cable--drive.

I think you've got two choices. Make a cable by getting two extension cables, doing some tranny surgury (cutting off the male ends) and connecting the two female ends together. Or, as already mentioned and much easier, simply add a regular extension cable (or Y adapter) to the other end, PSU--drive cable--regular extension cable--drive.

if i had this problem and did not have a suitable connector / extension to hand I would go to my garage and get some wire, my soldering iron kit and some insulation tape. it might not look as pretty but if its hidden in the pc case, who cares. Soldered joints are better for continuity of current than plugs/connectors.

I think I'd still put a wye at the current end of the cable. Electron's don't care where the extension is.

my psu also has another cable that is 7" long. it has a male connecter on both ends and im trying to use that cable to connect to my other cable that is going to my dvd/cd drive and floppy drive. that is the reason why it has both male ends so i need an adapter that has both female ends so i can bridge the two male ends together.

I don't understand. You are saying you are going to make a continous loop.

You're trying to connect two of the cables that came with the PSU end-to-end to make one long cable, as in PSU--drive cable--modified extension cable--drive cable--drive?

If you're dead set on doing it that way then just make a female-female cable as I mentioned in #3.

But you don't have to do it that way. Just plug the PSU cable into the PSU and on its other end attach a regular female-male extension or Y adapter. That will lengthen the cable and give you a male connector that will plug directly into the drive. If you need a single cable to power 2 drives then make sure you use a Y adapter.

If this wouldn't solve the problem then I'm failing to understand what you're trying to do.
