I have plenty of old computer monitors around and was wanting to use one of them other than purchase a tv to view a security camera. As of right now I have it connected to my computer and use a capture card to view it. Other than run it thru my computer, what I have in mind is running this camera straight into a monitor alone. So heres what I need to know. The video camera has a yellow male composite plug and of course the monitors have a 15 pin plug with pins that plug into your video card. ( differant pins on various monitors, 9, 15, various others ). I want to modify a monitor vga plug and fix it where I can plug this camera composite male into it and receive the video straight to the monitor. This camera is black and white. Anyone have any ideas on how to go about this? Thanks.

There is no way of changing the 15-pin vga connector to accept composite video directly. There adapters to connect/convert composite to vga. Not that cheap though, I think 70 dollars up.

You are asking a lot. A composite video output contains all the video, colour and synchronisation signals into one signal.

You are going to need a device that separates these signals and conditions them for the monitor. Even though the camera if B&W, you are still going to need the RGB signals to power the monitor. Instead of colour, just varying shades of grey.

Something like this might do:

Video to VGA

Yeah I had already done some research and found this one,

But I really was wanting to do this little project without spending any money at all, since I already had the monitors and plenty of cables and things. Not knowing exactly how monitor cables perform and all I wasnt sure if this mod would be realistic or not. For a black and white camera I didnt think it would use over three pins out of that plug but I really aint sure.

At a minimum you could use only the green gun. For a green screen mono. There is still the problem of sync separation. You probably could use a video interface chip to do th
