modems and inf files

Specs: Windows 98, Pent II 98
I'm getting 53,333 bps from my old modem about half the time. It is a "Standard" and has a huge inf file. Can I edit the inf file to get rid of modem info that does not apply to my modem?

Why would you mess with success? If in fact you are getting that throughput don't touch anything and be thankful. That is the maximum speed you can possibly attain from a single modem.

Yes, if it isn't broke, don't fix it.

Any information that is in the .inf file that doesn't apply to your modem is just ignored, a after all, its nothing more than just a text file and doesn't take up any resources except a few kBs on your hard disk.
