Hello, I have a problem in which my dial-up modem works in windows 98, but not in win xp. In xp I used the cd to install the modem drivers for xp, but still not luck, but when I use that modem with win 98, no problem.
Anyone know what might be the problem?

Thanks
Ray

Are you 'positive' that the correct driver was installed? Check the Device Manager to see what it says. WinXP has been known to accept and install the wrong modem driver.

Do yourself a favor BACKUP!!!

Did you install the WIN98 driver in XP? That could certainly cause problems.

Check the Modem manufacture's website if they have one and look for a driver for Window XP if they do dowload it, uninstall your driver using the device manager then reinstall using the new dowloaded one and see if this fixes the issue. Also a little more infomation would have helped. (ie modem maker, Model #)

96MB RAM will run Win98, but for XP, it's pathetic...I'm surprised it runs at all. If the PC you're asking about isn't the same one you listed (900mhz/96mb/compaq), you should clarify the specs. If it is, you should upgrade your RAM before doing anything else. I wouldn't suggest any less than 256MB, but 512MB would definitely be better.

Thanks everyone, will try what is suggested. Hopefully it'll work. Oh, and I did install the provided xp drivers in the xp os, but it still didn't work.

Thanks again
