I asked this question a couple of months ago & didn't get any useful replies...so I'm asking again. Here's the original question:
"I'm doing some work on a friends PC & have run across a problem that I've never encountered before. Each time I reboot, the 56k PCI modem turns up on a different Com port. This causes AOL to go into modem auto-detect mode when it is launched. If the PC is not rebooted, AOL can be shutdown & restarted without any problems...but if the PC is rebooted, the modem turns up on a different Com port again. It's turned up on Com 1, 3, 4 or 5.
The mobo is a Gigabyte GA-5AX & the modem is an Aztech MDP7800-U 56k PCI.
I've flashed to the latest BIOS, reinstalled Windows, updated the modem drivers, tried the modem in different PCI slots, reinstalled the chipset drivers, etc...but nothing helps."
I talked to my friend today & she mentioned that her PC is still doing the same thing & wondered if I'd ever come up with a fix. I forgot to mention that the PC had been doing the same thing before I got my hands on it, so it wasn't anything that I'd done to cause it. But while I was upgrading some things, I told her I'd try to correct the modem problem. I don't think it's an AOL issue because the modem turns up on a different com port after every reboot, regardless of whether AOL is run or not.
Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance....
