Hello. I am having connection problems with a US Robotics Megahertz 56k XJ5560 PCMCIA Modem. The drivers and firmware are updated. If the modem dials in using tone dialing, it acts like it doesn't even interrupt the dialtone. The dialtone continues even after dialing and I receive a "no answer" error message. This problem is remedied using Pulse dialing, but the modem only connects at 21.6kbps. It isn't the phone line because other computers when connected at the same location connect at a much higher speed. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to fix this?

All of the 56k modems I have vary from 31kbps to 52kbps and there isnt really a whole lot you can do. 21k does sound a bit slow. Just go through all the modem settings you can find and make sure there all correct. Fiddle with a few of them and see what you get.
