Modem auto disconnecting

OS: Windows XP Pro
CPU/Ram: Intel p4 1.8 Ghz 256 Mb R

My modem is quto disconnecting. I see the box come up that saids auto disconnect. I checked the properties and connections. Disconnect if idle for 20 mins is NOT checked. I was not even idle and it came up.But for some reason i keep disconnecting

1) Click on ?Start?.
2) Go to ?Settings?.
3) Click on ?Control Panel?.
4) Double Click on the ?Modems? Icon.
5) Be sure that you are on the ?General? tab.
6) Click on ?Properties?.
7) Make sure the ?Maximum Speed? is 57600.
8) Click ?OK?.
9) Click on the ?Connection? tab.
10) Make sure ?Cancel a call if idle for more than...? is unchecked.
11) Click on the ?Port Settings? button.
12) Lower the buffers one notch each.
13) Click on ?OK?.
14) Click on ?OK? again.

? ? are because i use win 2k pro only. i have win xp but uninstalled it 'cause i did not like how unstable it was. win 2k pro is the best "for me", i was not too sure if the settings were the same. i'm willing to bet they are very close though to where you would not have a problem with what i gave you.

Sometimes ISPs will automatically disconect you if there is no data being sent. The best you could do is check the box (whereever it is) auto redial if line is dropped.

Maybe call your ISP, see what they say about it.

I don't really care what they say about it. I pay for the servive. If i want to stay connected 24/7 i will.
