Without knowing what speeds you are getting now there is not a lot that can be said to improve matters.

Dial up speeds can vary enormously. If you are getting anything around 48Kbs then you are doing well. There is nothing that will increase the speed limits imposed by the technology.

There is software that can give you an apparent increase in speed by caching often visited pages but it has limited use and can often introduce more problems than it solves.

Having said that, depending on where you live and how much you use the Internet, what kind of service you are on, flate rate or pay-as-you-go, broadband is no more expensive than dial up, and in some cases can be cheaper.

Not really - dial-up is and always will be maxed out @56K

There are schemes & services, such as this one that employ data compression or use low res graphics and precached content to provide the illusion of a faster connection

Broadband isn't necessarily that expensive - many ISPs have a 'lite' version. In my area, actually for a few bucks less than dial-up you can get high speed, but it's 'capped' at 1Gb/month of data transfer (up & down combined)

Interesting link Dosser but I had OnSpeed on my dial up and could see absolutely no increase in speed despite their claims, complete waste of money. I eventually worked out from my deliberately confusing phone bill that it was costing me on average £14.00/month so wemt broadband for £15.00/month.

Try a TCP settings optimizer - these tweak default TCP setting in Windows to better values and I have found that they help dial-up performance on the web noticably. They help web pages appear faster, your peak data transfer speeds may improve, and they may also improve download speeds.
e.g. search the web for: TCPOptimizer
Choose Dial-up - Optimal.

You only have to run most of these utilities one time - the settings will be retained in the Windows reistry unless you use System Restore to load a previous registry or you re-load Windows.

Dial-up is like a midget on one foot - no amount of "juicing" can make it as fast as a sprint athlete.

Don't waste any more of you mother's money, as hinted by bob, some DSL plans (here in the US) in certain areas are cheaper than standard dial-up and several times faster & better.

See what your local phone company offers.

Heh - actually it's been flat-out stated 3 times now

Sure, you might get a little mileage from tweaking the DUN settings, but only to a point

I'm happy with my dialup. But then again, I mostly just use my pc for email. And on occasion, logging in and doing my banking.

Corz - you do not advise where you are based.

Here in the UK, there are two types of dial up:-

a) pay by the minute
b) pay by the month (unlimited usage)

Now Broadband has arrived and often it is cheaper than (b).

With broadband, there are a couple of things to watch for:-

a) speed
b) download/upload limits- if any

Good Luck - Keep us posted.
