I have an eMachines computer that will not start. You press the button and nothing - no fans, no lights. I assumed it was the power supply, so I got out my power supply tester, and confirmed it wasn't putting out any voltage - it wasn't. I got a new power supply, and installed it. I pressed the button, fully expecting it to power up, but it didn't. I tested this Power supply, and it works fine. I tested teh outlet, nad it's fine. the power cord is fine, too.
It must be the mobo, right? But, has anyone seen the mobo and Power supply fail together?
Also, I called eMachines twice, and each time they told me a different mobo is in my computer - they can't even get the MODEL of my computer correct!!! It's one of their proprietary ones, can anyone tell me where I can get a replacement without going thru the buffons at eMachines?
Thanks

"has anyone seen the mobo and Power supply fail together?"
Yes. Sometimes there is even a causal link.

I recently had the same proble-PSU took out the MB. I found replacement on ebay and system is running without any OS changes or data lost. I had T2085 emachines and it used a ECS LV7MM2. I found that the ECS MB usually goes when a PSU failure happens as this is my second experience.

I looked up the specs of your W2888 on the EMachines web site.
As it so happens I looked up a mboard that is probably in the same series as what you have. It is in an Emachines T2642.
These mboards were made by Trigem, a Korean computer company. In fact, all EMachines computers I know of are actually Trigem brand systems in EMachines boxes, with English bioses and software.Your mboard is probably one of the ones in the Trigem Imperial series.
You could try emailing or phoning the EMachines web site, and ask if they any info about that series, but don't expect them to come through.
Info about older models tends to disappear from the Emachines web site after about three years, and it has always been that way for that web site. Because of that there are/were several third party web sites where you can/could find info about their older models, but unfortunaely most of them have vanished in the past year or so. The only one that still has info that I can find
http://www.elhvb.com/mboards/
has only info about mboards a lot older than yours.Early this year I found lots of info about this Imperial mboard series here:
"Trigem Imperial-G/GV/GL/GLVE Mainboard"
http://www.emachineupgraders.info/d...
but unfortunately that site is now dead, as of 05/27/06.All I found today were a couple of pictures and specs of 2 of the mboards in the series:
http://www.motherboards.org/mobot/m...
http://www.motherboards.org/mobot/m...The one in my friends EMachine T2642 was
IMPERIAL GV MBEM100979IM .There is probably info on the parent Trigem web site, but unfortunately most of the info is in Korean:
http://www.trigem.co.kr/
You could try that, but make sure you load the Korean text language support when you click on that in IE for the best chance of more of it being in English.
I don't know if the mboard series is called Imperial there too - in any case it is the series with the Intel® 845GV chipset.
.....What to do?
All of those mboards use the same Chipset: Intel® 845GV.
You could search for any used mboard that uses the same chipset, and your present cpu and ram, if they are not damaged, will likely work in any mboard that has that chipset .
Or you could determine the specs and ID number of your Celeron CPU, and get any mboard that it is compatible with that cpu in it's cpu support list, but the ram you have may not work in the new mboard if it does not have the Intel® 845GV chipset. However, there's no certainty the cpu is not damaged, and ram usually isn't damaged by a PS failing, but it's possible.
EMachines/Trigem systems use el-cheapo PSs, often Bestec brand, that we have had many posts about on this site, that tend to damage components connected to the mboard or the mboard itself when they fail.
(Hopefully you didn't buy an el-cheapo PS or the same thing could happen to you again.)

You could also try searching on brand name computer sites using Trigem Imperial or Trigem Imperial GV or similar - many el-cheapo brand name systems use Trigem mboards.
e.g. on the HP web site
(Oops - It's an Imperial, and Intel Brookdale, but in the GL series:
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/...

By the way, if you have a small case, you may not be able to fit larger form factor physically sized mboards in your case. Measure your mboard and see if there is any extra room in the case for a larger one - the different form factors e.g. micro atx, atx, are standard sizes. You can always get a cheap generic case without a PS at a small local place that builds custom computers if you have to and put all your pieces into it.

Thanks,
it was a Trigem Imperial. By sheer luck, I was on eBay and found an identical motherboard. Everything was the same. It arrived yesterday, and I installed today and I am back up and running. Thanks to all for your help, I couldn't have done it without you.

That's what I like to hear - Success!
I'm glad we were of help.
Thanks for tying up the thread.

A friend ask me to look at there emachine 2210 with what sounds like the same problem i started with basic's ending with changing the psu the mobo's light comes on but no power up where do i go from here i've no other spares for testing .
cheers for any help.

Usually when a PS damages a computer, the hard drive is still okay, the cd drive may or may not be okay, and the floppy drive might be okay or it might be damaged.
Try the hard drive and cd drive connected and jumpered as a slave on either IDE, or master on the secondary IDE on your own computer. Try the floppy drive connected to your own computer instead of yours. In other Emachines PS failures we've heard of where the PS was replaced but the mboard still would not boot, the mboard was probably damaged; in other examples of a PS failing I've seen the cpu may or may not be damaged but it usually isn't, and usually the ram is not damaged, but that's possible.
All of those are difficult or impossible to test without having compatible mboards to test with. You could try the ram in other mboards but if it doesn't work that doesn't necessarily mean it is bad - it may just be incompatible with the other mboard - that is more common with DDR ram.Is your friend willing to take a chance and buy a used mboard, and assume the cpu and ram are okay? That worked for JohnnyDigital5
in the above posts. You need to determine which mboard is in the emachines 2210
Is there any letter in the model number before 2210?
On the emachines web site, these all have similar model numbers:
C2280
D2244
T2200
W2247Description found many places on the web:
emachines 2210
Intel Celeron 2.6GHz processor, 128Mb DDR RAM, 40Gb hard drive, CD Rewriter drive, 32Mb Shared graphics, 56k Modem
....I searched the web with: emachines 2210 motherboard
Example "hits":
emachines motherboards for sale
http://2314-5300.12.upsiderights.com/In those listings
Take a look at these - is this the same motherboard? This lists the Celeron 2.6ghz as compatible...
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...
This one is currently cheaper...
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...
Note the emachines part number on your mboard - is it the same?
.....Maybe this one? Note the emachines part number
Emachines Imperial GL ATX socket 478 motherboard
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...Or take a look at the mboard pictures in response 4 above.

eMachine unofficial support has moved here:
