Hi, I just go a Precision software Reef 386sx motherboard, and it won't see more than 1 mb. ram
it has an AMI 386sx BIOS (s/n 046105)
an intel i386sx 16 mhz. proc.
at style power/ kybd. interface
No I/O card built in (I do have one)
accordig to the table listed on it the jumper settings are correct for the ram
("NO 4MB SIMMS
MAX 8MB RAM")It has 8 30-pin SIMM slots devided into four manks (0-3)
Bank 1: Goldstar GMM719000s-70 (1Mb. ea.)
Bank 2: Kingston KTM-1000S (1mb. ea.)
Banks 3/4: Samsung KMM59256Bn-7 (1Mb. ea.)the board is suppost to supprot up to 8MB. using this config, what I have installed, and 16 MB. using the other which is stated
"4MB SIMM BANK 0,1
MAX 16MB RAM"P.S. I also have 2 other 1MB SIMMS (OKI MSC2324-12YS3A 181102)

Try putting the 4 samsung chips in banks 1/2 (0/1) and leave 3/4 (2/3) empty.
Did it see the 4Mb?
Skip

i know this is not a helpful answer, but why on earth would you want to get this thing working,? it is so old , worthless , useless

I put the Kingson and Goldstar modules in banks 0/1 and it ges 4Mb it turns out that all the other ram was mislabled they are 1/4Mb. modules.
They are set in bank 0 Kingson, then Goldstar
For Bank 1 it is Goldstar, Kingston.
Thank you for your help
I have installed DOS 7.1 and it runs great.
The reason I want to get it running is to prove to my parents that I know what I say I know; they don't trust me fixing other peoples computers yet because I am only 16.

Working on those old boxes can be quite instructive - certainly gives you a bit of perspective on 20 years of desktop computers.
Doesn't quite qualify one to work on modern machines though - they are the same... but different. While a 386 is the basic model for today's machines, repairing even a humble P1 is another thing entirely, let alone a P4.
