i have a big problem with my old computer. A few weeks ago the lightning struck my computer wich resulted in a major melt down of the power supply and both the two network adapters who sat in the mobo. Theese two didnt work at all so i bought a new one. I put it in but my system refuses to recognize the network adapter, it can't even find a new unit. I have tryed this on other Mobos with Windows XP and they can find it, but mine still refuses. i have even bought other network adapters. but STILL it won't find it. please help me, im getting really confused!

have you tried the NIC in all of the PCI slots on your mobo?

and have you tried other cards in the PCI slots which the NIC's didn't work in?

It sounds to me like some of the PCI slots might be dead. I had this recently while building a PC for someone, couldn't detect the NIC at all so moved it to a different slot and it worked straight away.

Its pretty unusual for a power spike to damage something attached to the mobo but not damage the mobo. As Danny says, it could be that some part of the mobo is now broken, but it is otherwise fine. Maybe one or two pci slots work or maybe none of them work.

Have you any other cards (beside graphic) on that board ???
If yes remove them and try the network card in all slots.

Two friends had lightning strikes through the phone line and the computers did very strange things from booting only after three resets to very strange things while running until I removed the internal modem from the computer.
It's not very likely but another card may also be damaged and may cause the problems!
I agree with Johnoh that it's likely that one or in worst case all PCI slots may be dead. Can be a damage on the board wiring or the controller chip of the board!

I have tryed other cards on the PCI slots, such as graphics cards, soundcards etc.ĻAnd THEY work. But everytime i put a NETWORK card on my mobo it won't recognize it. It doesn't matter what network adapter it is, PCI,ISA ive tryed them all.
This frickin thing is almost killin' me.
