Subject: Mobo problem?
OS: Windows Vista 32bit
CPU/Ram: 2gb DDR2, E6750

Well, I am not too sure what is causing this problem. I getting a very annoying problem. All of a sudden all of my peripheral device shut off, ie, mouse, headset, speakers, joystick, keyboard and my computer freezes. If I leave it like that for a minute or so, I will start getting artifacts on my screen. All my fans are going and when this happens my cpu is at ~25 degrees celcius. I also get random BSODS sometimes. Do any of you guys know what may cause this?

I thought it might be bad ram, because I bought 2gb of ram and one of the sticks does not work. But then someone suggested I use memtest and it shows my one stick with no errors.

ASUS P5K
Intel E6750 dual core
BFG GeForce 8800GT
2x 1GB DDR2 6400
OCZ Mod X-Stream 780w PSU

I only saw artifacting once but have had the devices shut down and BSOD a lot more times. Don't know if that will help at all.

If your graphics card has a fan on it check to see if it is turning.

How long did you run memtest? If this is an intermittent problem, you should run it for a few hours. I suggest running it overnight, and any failures are unacceptable..

I have the same mobo that you do and I am also using Corsair DDR2 6400 2 x 1GB. I have not had any of the problems you are experiencing, but I did have some problems with CMOS checksum errors which I yhave since corrected. Are you using the TWIN2X2048-6400(5-5-5-12), because that is not on Asus's QVL. That doesn't mean it won't work, of course. You might want to post to or search the forum:

Still sounds like overheating. Check for dust and see if there are fans on any of the MBoard chips?

OtheHill: No there aren't, but with the asus probe program all the temps were pretty low. I was getting the freezing and BSOD's while just browsing my e-mail and the web.

kx5m2g: I have to ask, will having memory that is not on there QVL cause BSOD's?

I am going to add that before I was having this error, both sticks of ram were working but I started having problems with the BIOS making my computer hut off a second after I started it. I reset the bios and it started to work again but one memory stick didn't work and what I said in the OP started happening.

"I have to ask, will having memory that is not on there QVL cause BSOD's?" No, not necessarily. As I said, I also have the same RAM and haven't gotten any BSODs. If you can return the RAM, it's proably better to get the Corsair 6400C4 RAM, but your problem may not be the RAM. When you used two sticks, did you put them in Dimms A1 and B1 ?

Take the RAM out & wipe the contact edges with rubbing alcohol. Reinstall it, reboot, go into the BIOS & set the RAM speed to DDR667 (333MHz) to match the CPU FSB.
