Comment:

I have one ASUS CUW-RM Socket 370 microATX mobo with an Intel Celeron 500MHz CPU. It came with a one piece 100MHz 64MB SDRAM. To enhance Windows-based application, I have decided to add extra RAM. I bought a piece of Kingston 133MHz 128MB SDRAM for that purpose.

I understand that generally the mobo will recognise the new RAM module albeit performance will be at the 100MHz level. According to the manual, this mobo can recognise & accept memory up to 512MB.

However, the mobo only recognises 128MB worth of memory when both the RAM modules are slotted in. If I put in only the 128MB module, the RAM recognised is 64MB.

I am not sure what is the cause or how I can go about to ensure that the mobo recognises a total of 192MB RAM.

Anyone can provide assistance?

Thank you.

Try putting the low demoninator of RAM ie:64 meg. in slot one and the 128 meg card in slot two.

If you have bought the RAM recently, you probably picked up a "High Density" ram module. In this case, your system will recognize only 1/2 from the stick. Replace the memory and ask them for a module using 8x16 structured chips if you are getting a 128MB module. Or 16x8 structured chips if you are getting a 256MB module

Your motherboard is using the i810 chipset.

Thanks guys!

Well, at least now I learn that there are different types of SDRAM out there. I thought it was just a matter of speed. That goes to show I need to learn more about computer parts.
