I have a microphone/headphone socket on the front of the PC box. The headphone socket works fine. I tried pluggin in the microphone but cant get sound into the pc. I also tried pluggin in the microphone to the line in into the back of the pc, still doesnt work. the microphone is part of a headset on which the speakers work fine. So is this a software, hardware or microphone problem?

the microphone will work only if you plug it in the intended socket...that`s NOT line in, that there should be special microphone socket in the back...however, there might not be such a socket, depends on your sound card model...

but on the front there is a dedicated microphone socket but it just tried it and it doesnt work. i have set the real tek microphone as the default recording device and set mic boost and adjusted mic vol to high
