Merging 2 partitions

Specs: Windows xp pro, 1.2ghz/364mb
I have a laptop hard drive I have placed in a
case to use as a portable storage drive. It had 2
partitions due to a restore partition. How do I
merge them into 1 partition hopefully using
windows and not an outside program. If not
possible then what program will work?
Thanks
Dennis

If you don't need to save any data on the partitions all you need to do is to delete both partitions and then create one, using all the available space.

The laptop the drive came out of is no longer in use then? Because there are important files on one of those two partitions.

No I already formatted both partitions separately but want the
drive for portable storage. The laptop motherboard died 2
weeks after the warranty ran out! Gotta love gateway! New
motherboard over $400 so I'm using the drive.

There is no command to delete the drives. How do I do this?

Go to Disk Management and you can delete the partitions and create new from there.

Right click on My computer> manage> storage> disk management.
