Mom's glorified word processor works fine for playing Yahoo! games. That's all she cares about. I first got on a computer,(hers), in June of 2003 and when I asked how much memory it had she replied "56K I think". By X-mas 2004 I'd spent hundreds of dollars on upgrades and still spend most of my time trying to keep this thing running,(so mom can play her games). It's "MY" fault that her 2.99 GBs are full and so I added an itty-bitty 30 GB Maxtor HD to resolve this issue. There seems to be an issue with copying Windows 9x versions from an original HD to a new HD so the 30 GB ended up as a slave/storage. Maxtor tech support recommended Norton Ghost but at the time I was tapped out and gave up for awhile. X-mas 2005 and $150.00 later I've got norton Partition Magic(10.0/2003) AND Norton Ghost because I'm sick and tired of trying to keep mom's computer over the 500MB mark. When I use the computer there's no memory loss. When mom uses it,(daily), memory is lost daily! I run Disk Cleanup everytime I get on and dump Norton's protected recycle bin before I do anything. When I bought PM8.0 it looked like what I needed to create a new boot for the now partially used 30GB HD. I loaded it on the slave drive and created a partition,(about half of the drive) and was afraid the transfer of the C drive to the D drive wouldnt take and wouldnt allow the computer to boot from it because of it's position on the drive. At symantec support I find that Ghost IS the program I need so I went back out and bought it, too. Trying to get back to square one I merged the newly created partition back into the D drive. Magor screw-up! Now both drives are read in MS-dos compatibility mode and the 3GIG is often down under 200 MB'S. Fortunately, mom can still do her puzzle and play her games. The internet is the only place I have to turn to for help and I cant believe 12-15 GB's, with nothing on it, was lost forever. Partition Magic wont open now and doesnt recognize the D drive,(when opened at boot-up). I dont remember what the settings were in the BIOS when I originally installed the new hard drive and mom was a bear for about a week without her games. Symantec was no help. They responded with "Sounds like you're trying to merge two partitions,..see the link below". It sounds simple,...take everything off of one hard drive and put it on a newer, bigger hard drive. What a headache! Whatever I have to do to completely and utterly destroy this 3GB hard drive,...I'll do it! Just as long as mom gets to play her games. Thanks, in advance of any assistance or suggestions you may have.

Too much information.
Get Ghost or Acronis True Image and image the small drive to the large one. Then make the large one Master and the small one slave. Boot up and it should be fine.
Some manufacturer have a free program to image one drive to another on their web sites.

ham30 is correct on all ounts.
With DOS/9x you could probably use JOIN or SUBST and avoid all these gyrations.
and/or set TEMP to the 30GB. Depends on how well behaved the games are.
If at first you don't succeed, you're about average.M2

why did you attempt to copy the OS onto the new drive anyways?
1. If you planned to replace to old drive with the 30GB and remove the 2.9GB, you should have performed a clean installation of windows onto the new drive, and only copy over necessary files (not programs themselves or the OS)
2. If you planned on leaving both drives installed, you should have just left the 2.9GB drive alone, and simply added the 30GB for future programs and files. It seems to me that you still have this option.
3. as far as the "missing partition" goes, have you tried using FDISK to locate and delete it?
Don't put a question here? lol

I've never had any problem copying an old small drive to a new larger one. I always use the copying utility provided by the drive manufacturer. It's free. You don't need to buy partition magic and ghost. The only thing that may have caused a problem is if the bios didn't correctly see the 30 gig. But that's manageable by upgrading the bios (if one is available) or installing a bios overlay. To use a car analogy, you're doing an engine overhaul when all you needed was spark plugs.
Also, if you've got the Norton protected recycle bin you've probably got systemworks on it. Get rid of that! It's useless and a resource hog. That's probably what's clogging up the 3 gig.

KK, thanks, sorry 'bout the TMI-all the sample posts I read were pretty long winded. I'll keep it short and to the point in the future,..thanks again.
