2 modules of DDR 333. FSB at 166 (11*166). Memory reverts to 132mhz at optimal setting in bios ever since I put the second module in. Do I have to choose 'by SPD' to get it up to 166? Shouldn't FSB/RAM sync on 'auto'?

A7N8X-X. Modules in slot 1 & 2. Any ideas?

Put the 512 stick in dimm 1
skip dimm 2

and put the 256 in dimm 3.

Auto should detect the correct speed in bios.

Sounds to me that one stick isn't detected correctly. It maybe the board but it's also possible that you got the wrong type of ram!
