Hi folks, I have an old Foxconn 400M01-G-6L Mobo, the Owner's Manual says only accepts maximun ram frecuency of DDR333/PC2700, but I have a DDR400/PC3200 (256mb), I tested it and seems to run Ok, boot normally and no freezing in any Windows aplications or big games, even the manual says DDR400 is not suported, so... is ok to keep this memory or should I get a DDR333. Could I damage something in the mobo? what do you think?
Thanks in advance.

Chipset: IntelĀ® 865PE

RAM: 512MB DDR-SDRAM / 400 Mhz

The RAM will work fine, it just won't work at its rated speed, the mobo would have downclocked the RAM to DDR333. If you run something like CPU-z, you will see that for yourself.

I use a Mac, still want to take my advice... LOL

thanks adz, but DDR400 will help a bit if I overclock the cpu? or will work the same as DDR333?

Ram generally is backwards compatible. Therefore even though it is rated higher than the system requires, it will run at the slower system speed without doing harm.
Run memtest86 from a bootfloppy to see whether there are any errors evident.

Any errors reported may be due to faulty ram or incompatibility issues since the DDR rating is not the only technical aspect that affects performance. Timing and CAS latency can also make a difference.

In short, you will not damage the motherboard by using this ram but you may eventually suffer data corruption if other incompatibility issues arise. If Memtest gives a clean result then continue using the ram.

I used to have a signature but it disappeared and I just couldn't be bothered writing another so please feel free to ingore this.

You may be able to run the 400 at 400 with a BIOS update. I think the latest BIOS file is dated 12/2007.

even if you did get it to run at 400 with a bios update I expect you would not notice any difference.
