Comment: im not very experienced on pc issues. I do know a lot,but by far an expert, but i wont learn unless i ask so this is my question. Would 2 differnt brands of memory affect performance. lets say both are 512 unbuffered 400mhz pc3200 compatible with my mobo all the same, just differnt brands, there wouldnt be any issues would there? next question. I have 3 dimm slots. would I see a performance issue if i were to put 512 in one slot 2 256's in the other ones? thanks for all your help. this wont be my last question either im sure. Next thing you know, you have money missing from your dresser and your daughters knocked up! Ive seen it a hundrend times.

Reply: (edit)0. A difference in brand does not have any performance effect negatively or otherwise on similar spec'd memory modules. 1. Similarly a difference in size does not have any performance effect negatively or otherwise on similar spec'd memory modules regarding slot matrix.

Reply: (edit)On the second question, it can certainly make a difference if your CPU and motherboard support hyperthreading. You can only run in dual channel mode with paired sticks of ram. Your motherboard manual will contain info on ram configuration requirements. I used to have a signature but it disappeared and I just couldn't be bothered writing another so please feel free to ingore this.

Reply: (edit)pckiller, In your last thread, I recommended that you check the manual for your board BEFORE buying any RAM. There is a table that lists different memory combinations. - If you install 2 double-sided sticks of DDR400 (PC3200), they will automatically downclock to DDR333 (PC2700) speed. - 3 double-sided sticks of DDR400 will run at DDR200 (PC2100) speed. - 2 double-sided + 1 single-sided will run at DDR200. - 1 double-sided + 2 single-sided will run at DDR333 - 3 single-sided will run ar DDR333 Check your manual!
