I'm having a memory problem that I can't nail down. My system has a SOYO Dragon MB, with 3-256MB PC2100 chips installed. Just this past week, it started BSOD-ing, with the message it had recovered from a bugcheck. After reinstalling the OS to rule out a driver issue, the instability remained, so I looked to the memory. Sure enough, Memtest86 found errors (1 in test 5, 94 in test 6). So, I tested each module individually. Here's the problem - they each test good on their own, in each of the three memory banks. The memory will also pass the test when 2 modules are installed (regardless of which memory banks they are installed in). But, when all three modules are installed, Memtest86 starts throwing out errors again. I'm teetering on the edge of buying a new machine, as the randomness of the shutdowns is truly an annoyance (work-wise, and troubleshooting-wise). Any ideas? I'm going to pick up some new memory today to see what that does. I'd just really like to know if this is an issue someone's familiar with (1 or 2 modules installed works, all 3 is a no go). Thanks in advance for any help!

Your motherboard may not be able to use more than 512MB RAM. That may not be true though...

This problem just popped up after several months of trouble-free operation. The board supports up to 3GB (SOYO VIA KT333 Dragon Lite).

Hi John,
I have a Soyo Dragon K7V+ w/ RAID.

That board has cost me more spent time and headaches than any other piece of computer equipment I have ever dealt with. It got so bad that finally Soyo Corp. took the board back and exchanged it with another they said tested good. It did the same things. I was on the Yahoo Soyo Forum for weeks with others who were having probs.

I won't go into all the gory details, but I finally discovered that if I kept a single stick of 512/266DDR RAM in the middle slot it would run fine. I still can't bump the FSB up to 133 (266 clock), so I must keep it at 100. Soyo is in bad need of assembly-line quality control. There are many loyal K7V users that swear by the board, and there are many that swear at the board.

I wish I could give you a definitive answer, but I just never found one for that board!

Just an update... Grrr... PC2700 memory (that is supposed to be backwards compatible to PC2100/266) would not POST with this motherboard. Finding PC2100 memory locally was a bust, unless I wanted to spend $159.00 for a 512MB stick (ummmmm.... NO.) I got some coming from an online place ($85.00/512MB - much better, and it's Crucial, too!). Cross your fingers, and I'll update when it shows up.

P.S. No BSODs, and memory passes, no matter which two of the three modules I use. It's the 3rd one installed that puts the monkey in the wrench. :( So, hopefully 2-512MB DDRs will work the same so I can circumvent using all three banks. :) If not, the BFH is at the ready. :)

Actually, from what you are saying, John, the 3rd DDR slot may be the culprit. I would not be surprised to find that there is one cold solder joint involved with that socket, or, the socket itself is bad.
