Memory for Toshiba Satellite 4030CD

Hi all
I have a Toshiba Satellite 4030CDT notebook and am considering upgrading the memory. The notebook has 64MB soldered to the board and 1 extra slot (which I have a 64MB stick inserted into). I would like to change the stick for a 256MB PC100 stick; is this possible for this notebook? I searched for several hours on the internet and every place I find says the max the computer will take is 192MB (64MB + 128MB).

If you take a good look at the memory socket on the laptop you'll find it is not a standard PC-100. It is shorter than a desktop's and the chips are only on one side. You're lucky you can get to 192. I can get only to 80. 16 soldered plus 64.

thanks for the reply. you're right on the size of the stick (desktops are 168-pin, whereas laptops are 144-pin). future shop here in canada offers a 256MB 144-pin pc-100 stick of ram, which is why i was wondering if my particular laptop can handle it (the capacity that is, not the physical size).
