Subject: Memory for 2.4Ghz??? HELP
OS: WinXp PRO
CPU/Ram: P4 2.4 Ghz/533Mhz
Comment:

I don't know what TYPE of memory I need. I have a Tyan i845 motherboard with a Pentium 4 2.4GHz processor. It says I need PC2100 DDR RAM, doe this mean I need 533Mhz RAM?? MOSTLY all the RAM I have seen thats PC2100 is 266MHz.. I am very confused as to which memory I need or would want.. THANKS

did you know that 533Mhz buss speed intEl pentuim claims to have is a CROCK! a ploy, a sell tatic a CON job on joe public. so now you no why there isn't any ram at that speed because its fairy tail by intEL.AMD rules and is only claiming a TRUE bus speed of 333mhz with there new cpus.

so does that mean that I can ONLY buy a PC2100 512MB DDR that's 333MHz??? I can't find a PC2100 chip that is 533MHz... I have seen a lot that are 266Mhz.. I have a p4 2.4GHz and I want the best/fastest memory possible. Thanks.

whats the motherboard say it supports ? what bran and model number s it, most new ones support 2700 dr ram higher ones are more for overclockers and are more unstable even with the newer 400 chip sets in the motherboard.

The only thing my motherboard says is that it supports PC2100 DDR memory up to 2GiG. My CPU has 533MHz FSB. What speed memory should I buy?? I have only seen PC2100 memory up to 266MHz.. is their TRUE 533MHz memory sticks out wiht PC2100??

///is their TRUE 533MHz memory sticks out wiht PC2100??/// NO!, i told you pentium is LIEING about that bus speed just forget about that inflated number there tossing around,the 266hmz will work just fine in your board.

check this out below head to head a 2.4 pentuim so called 533 bus speed and a little amd 2400 xp cpu with a 333 bus speed but what the looky there the 2.4 pentuim should bee two times faster then the amd with that BIG FAT bus speed of 533 but its not! because intEl is inflating there stats..http://www.linuxhardware.org/article.pl?sid=02/09/26/172240&mode=thread(Above, we see the 2400+ beating out, not only the 2.4GHz Pentium 4, but also the 2.8GHz Pentium 4 by a substantial margin (23% faster than the 2.4GHz and 9% faster than the 2.8GHz).)

your right, thanks man. I was off-tracked by the 533MHz on the box of the CPU. I guess they MIGHT make 533MHz PC2100 memory in the future.. but for now it looks like 266Mhz is ALL I can go on this Tyan Trinity i845 board. Thanks again.

making a better bus speed memory stick for a inflated bus speed by intEL wont make any diffrence because its not true.. from that same website i show you above//Once again, the Pentium 4 just can't keep up, even though we have traditionally seen a good showing from Intel in this category. In this test the 11 second lead by the 2400+ over the 2.4GHz equates to an about a 15% gain and the 4 seconds over the 2.8GHz amounts to about a 6% gain. Pretty awesome from a chip running 400MHz slower.//yes there talking about the little 266 bus speed of AMD.

Nice, I'm glad to see your happy with AMD. As the research I have read indicates INTEL having a higher quality rating, customer rating, and on performance, I heard the pentium 4's 1.8GHz+ , are much faster. The test you were seeing may be true ONLY on a SPECIFIC program.. thats how reviews are done. I'm not saying your not right, theres just some other factors to consider.. like some programs run better with the INTEL. It would then naturally be an equation of which CPU works better with MORE programs. I have found INTEL again to have a higher category in this area.

Hi Chris...

PC2100= 266 Mhz
PC2700= 333 Mhz
PC3200= 400 Mhz

All PC2100 DDR memory runs at 266 Mhz
All PC 2700 runs at 333 Mhz, you get the idea...

If your board runs PC2100, you are only going to be running 266 Mhz memory.
The speed of the DDR memory in your system has absolutely nothing to do with the 533Mhz FSB speed of your motherboard...

BTW, David is right. On nearly all benchmarks, AMD is slighly ahead of Intel when comparing a P4 1.8 Ghz to an AMD XP1800+ for example. Pretty good achievemnt for an AMD chip that actually runs at 1.53 Ghz, a good 270 Mhz slower than it's Intel counterpart.

At the end of the day though, there are people still happily working with sub 1 Ghz CPU's, so I'd just be glad I had a nice, fast CPU...
