Hiya,

I have a msi nforce 2 mb with 2 x 258 sticks of memory...today unreal tournament crashed during play and when i restarted my memory only showed up 1 x 258.

Im hoping i can just replace the memory but was wondering if anyone knows how i can work out whether its the mb thats causing the problem.

p.s. i have had problems before and checked the memory using memtest86 but all seemed ok...that time i moved the sticks around and then both showed up again together and independantly!

Please help

owen

Ok, here's what you can do:
Open your case and remove 1 memory stick. Boot the computer and see if it's starting up. Now remove that stick and replace it with stick 2 (use the same memory slot)
See if it's booting. Do the same with the other memory slots. This will determine wheter your memory modules or motherboard is causing the problem.
If both modules are fine and your motherboard is fine too, you need to place your modules that the fastes one is in slot 1.

Good luck, Lizette

The problem that i have is that the computer starts up fine 99% of the time and it would take hundreds of tries to work out whether 1 particular memory stick is causing the problem.

I only usually find out that something is wrong when a game crashes during play and a couple of times i have noticed after the crash that one stick is no longer recognised....

The fastest memory stick being in slot one is interesting can anyone explain this 4 me?

Thanks 4 the feedback lizette
