Hi this is the story :

Yesterday morning when I started it after 5 minutes it suddenly shutdown it selfs. After I retried to started when I have switched to on/off button there was a normal red ligh(this is a on/off button light, when it began to start it turn to green) before but it did not restarted.. After I retried it
no way again.. The third one there was not even the lights..

Nex step : I have performed some test

1 - I look the case from back.. When I plug to the wall ( electricity ) my ethernet card lights turn on.. And when I push to on/off button my power supply shafts turns 2 or 3 times !! but the turns OFF..

2 - I switched to it an USB Harddisk wich need the usb power ( standalone powerless usb portable hard disk ) suprise!! When i switched to ON my USB hard disk turns ON also
So my motherboard has its electricity.. Also interesting when I push to on/off button enough long time ( normally to shurdown the pc ) It works also !! so my USB harddisk turns off also..

3 - I found a CMOS reset button on the motherboard that I clickt it.. No way only difference is that my power supply shafts (fans) turns some 10 or 15 turns but stops again..

Conclusion :

I doubt about my CPU and Power Supply But my power supply seems working well to adapt the electricity to the board only thing that the bios dont come up and the fan dont work..So only thins is that is my CPU is burn out ?

Queestion and Help from you guys :

I dont like Gateway support also they wanted me a huge service rate.. I am an engineer and I am feeling that to jump this bad change myself.

Please answer me for that :

1 - Mt PC is a modern Media center pc so it has a modern mainboard I guess.. Lets says that it has an mini-form pc such ATX case technology.. It is OK that if a CPU is Burn out the power supplt fan stops itselfs because there is no bios or cpu working ? is that this case is intelligent ?

2 - I dont feel a CPU burn out odor ( some plastic burn out fell ) so everything seems ok is that normal thing ? I mean that if there is cpu burn out is there always an plastic burn odor in the air ?

3 - If my power supply is going bad it is normal that it continues to feed my motherboard ? Why my fan shafts is turning 2 or 3 times but stops after ( so this meaning that my power supply is ok I guess )

4 - Another case could be short circuit in the case it selfs ? ( this short circuit would be an CPU burn out status ? ) What type of short circuit exists and how can I handle or find it ?

Thank you even a little information about this.. Any small information sharing will be helpfull for me

Thank You

Onder Y.

A couple of tips.
The Power supply has 2 modes.
1. Full power up.
2. Power off but some voltage applied to the motherboard.

On 'full power up', the motherboard checks the voltages supplied to it from the power supply. If they are not all withing specifications, the motherboard will not send a 'Power Good' signal back to the power supply. If that happens, the power supply shuts itself down.

Just a guess, but it does sound Power Supply related, and small voltages can stil be sent as stated above.

Hot jump the PSU to see if it's working. To do this just short the green wire with a black on. Check the voltages with a voltmetre.

It's nice to be important but it's more important to be nice...

I have a voltmetre, I will do this.. I am not electronic based engineer, please give me some detail aobut the hot jump green/black. This will insura that psu is ok ? or PSU is dead ?

G'day,

What ghimpe- is referring to is the fact that the green cable is usually connected to the switch. If you remove the connector from the motherboard, you would need to connect the green cable to 0V. This can be done by connecting a link between the black (0V) and green leads on the connector.
If the fan runs when you turn the mains switch on then you can go ahead and measure the voltages at the connector (+/-12V 5V etc) by connecting the negative (black lead) to the black cable on the connector. To start, just set your voltmeter to 20 (say) V DC and then run through the cables on the connector (yellow, red, orange etc).
Get a drawing of the connector if you can- should be able to do this at your local library, on the net or even bug your local computer store.
Remember all voltages are to be measured with respect to the cable 0V (black lead).
Some points to note:
You may get higher voltages than expected if the power supply is not under load- they should be in the same ball-park however (no more than about +/-20%).
If you do get satisfactory voltages, it still doesn't mean that your power supply is OK; again, because it is not loaded- you could do with the cable plugged in if your computer will stay on for long enough.
Finally, I'm sure you are aware but don't stuff about with the mains side of things.
NEVER take the case apart (the voltages inside "float" to about 480V!!)if you want to see your next birthday.
Good luck,
Elric
