I am presently looking at the Diamond Viper ATI X1600 Pro AGP 512MB Video Card...

My 9800 PRO video card burned up on me yesterday.

I presently have a Kingston KHX3200A/512 stick which I want to keep.

I have a Intel 2.8 CPU which for the time being I am happy with.

But I want to replace my mother board. Can someone recommend a quality Intel mother board that doesn't cost much more than $200 please? I am an avid Flight Simulator and Train Simulator fan. This is where I am in trouble trying to find a motherboard and video card.

Thank you,
Harold

Don't waste your money on the 512MB version...you should be able to get a 256MB for about $100.

Are you sure your 9800Pro burned up? Is it possible that it's something else or are you 100% certain it's the card? do you know the cause?

Are you looking for a S478 or S775 board? There are dozens of decent ones available for well under $100.

Yes the 9800Pro is totally burned up. The fan went on it once and I replaced it with a new one. This time the card was so hot I could hardly pull it out of the MB.

I know little about MB's so a S478 or a S775 would be something that I would have to research and will do right now.

I totally enjoy my simulators, especially at my ripe old age of 70 so I need a video card and a MB that will handle the frame rates in both FS2004 and TRS2006 (trains).

S478 = socket 478
S775 = socket 775 also known as socket T

You'll need to know that before you can shop for a new board.

CPUZ will tell you everything you need to know. Just download it, unzip, & click on CPUZ.exe:

See what's listed for "package"
