Hi all,

As a Maxtor reseller I though all you Maxtor fans should hear about the new warranty policy I recieved just now via E-mail.

As of immeaditely, all drives must be warrantied by the seller AND in the same graphical location in which it was bought.

This means all you Dell, HP and Compaq people will be forced to deal with your companies tech support and no longer with Maxtor direct.

This also means that all you Pricewatch and Newegg fans may have trouble as drives purchased in bulk from oversea's vendors and sold via places like PW and NE may not be warranted by your end seller (outside original sale area).

Just thought you should know,

I still like them but a few blocks down the street at PCClub I get to pay 99.99+8% sales tax for a 6Y080P0 that I can get at newegg.com for 81.50, free shipping, no sales tax and a free paper weight. So now I get to pay a $26.49 premium and no paper weight...that's a warranty cost of 32.5% of the newegg purchase price.

I'm pretty sure that sucks.

I'll back you there Skip,
it does suck.

Many of my customers like Maxtor and guys like me should have no problem but many price shoppers and OEM buyers surely will.

If it is true then I think Maxtor forgot to update their warranty site.
http://www.maxtor.com/en/support/service/warranty/statement.htm

I may be reading it wrong, but it still gives you the steps to obtaining an RMA.

Believe whay you want bro, I'm only telling you what they told me.

Filling out an onlne form does not a replacement drive make.
