Does anyone have any experience with the 120GB versions of these two manufacturer's drives? I wonder about speed, durability, and noise.

I have an 80GB Maxtor now, which is actually a replacement for an identical drive that crashed on me about 3 months ago. Although the replacement was painless, losing everything isn't anybody's idea of a good time :(

I'm running 2 of the Maxtor 80 gig 133-RAID drives in a new system and so far so good. I have heard alot of good reviews on the WD with the 8mb cache running 10-15% faster. Might be worth giving it a try.

WB JB series if you want great performance for a few extra bucks. If not, there's not much a difference between the brands, but I'd go with a seagate personally.

From what I've read, most of the posting world agrees with you fine chaps (except for Amourek (what's with that?)).

I have stood by Maxtor for quite a few years, and they always seem to do pretty good in the benchmarks as well as in practical use, but since my 80GB DiamondMax failed on me, I am starting to look around. While all drive brands have had their share of returns, I figure that considering Dell, Gateway, and Compaq (HP) all use WD, maybe they know what they are doing.

Oh, well. That's my thoughts.
