OK, my maxtor onetouch II 200gb harddrive, it fell of my desk and into my bed, which was only a .5m drop. Whenever I turn on the power, I hear three series of beeps then a grinding noise. On the maxtor site, it says it is a hardware problem and needs to be sent in. Has anyone else had this problem, because I really dont want to get it repaired as it will cose me EVEN more money, so does anyone have a clue what the problem is?

It didn't fall off my desk into my bed, it fell off my desk into my bin.

OK, I recorded the sound. I have read around and it seems the drive isn't spinning, and I cant get into the drive because it only has two screws, and the 'tearing this sticker will void warranty' sticker ontop of it, so unless I had a surefire way of restoring it, I wont open it up.

THe sound is here:

The drive is toast, you can not repair yourself, it needs to be open in a "clean room" environment. Send it back to Maxtor.

Does it have to be Maxtor? I bought it at a repair shop, would they be able to repair it?

NO, repairing is a specialized process, time to buy a new drive if it is not under warranty.

Go to maxtor's warranty page to see if it's still under warranty. It won't matter where you bought it. Obviously don't tell them you dropped it.
