maxtor hdd - powermax utility

**powermax** i bought a maxtor diamond max plus 9 80gb 8mb cache it made quite a loud noise, so i downloaded powermax this did not detect my new drive or my other one, or my cd-rom drive. the maxblast 3 did when i installed the drive so from this i suspected the drive might be at fault, anyway i took it back to shop and they changed it, but when i ran powermax again it still did not detect it, bios and windows picks up drive and everything works o.k, but why does powermax fail to detect it. could there be problem with drive or motherboard (gigabyte ga-7vax). or is there compatability problem with hdd and motherboard, it's quite anoying to think that there may be a problem somewhere.
