I have 3 sata hard drives, a Western Digital 36 GB drive as my (sata 1) a 120 GB Maxtor as my (sata 2) and an 80 GB Maxtor in the (sata raid 1 slot)..... the sata raid 2 slot is empty. Why won't the 80 GB Maxtor in the (sata raid 1 slot) show up as a drive ??

No matter what i do the 80 GB Maxtor in The (sata raid 1 slot).... Will not be detected ??? I'm stumped !

I have an ASUS P4C800-E Deluxe Motherboard

Read your manual about the raid channel. I am sure that to use the sata raid you must have drives in both slots for the raid array to work.

To run a raid setup you must have the following

1 Drives same size and ideally same make you need 2 drives to make a raid array
2 Enable raid on your mb
3 When installing windows you need to install the raid drivers when promted at the beginning of install

I did not install the raid drivers when I installed windows XP.... does this mean I have to reformat and reinstall ?

also... so i guess the sata 1 & 2 are for running individual sata HD's and the sata raid 1 & sata raid 2 are just for running two HD's as raid. Ok, that makes sense but can I run a raid where i can use both hard drives instead of simply installing two, say 120 GB HD's and only having 120 GB of space... Is there a RAID that will enable me to use the full 240 GB's of Hard drive space ?

Thank you

~Thomas

When you run raid with two 120gb drives, you get 240gb. You need to do some reading about raid before you STEP in a pile of $@#&%$@*!

Thank you. I'll keep reading and bone up on Raid.... It seems to be something worth learning more about. Right now I'm simply running a 36 GB 10,000 RPM HD as my OS drive and a Maxtor 80GB HD as an extra in sata 1 and sata 2..... maybe I'll do the Raid thing when i get a couple of those new 74GB Raptors that run at 10,000 RPMs... Until then I'll keep studying.

Thanks again.

~Thomas
