Maximum HDD size

Micro / Ms-6712

Specs: Windows XP
Is there a maximum size for a HDD with this motherboard using XP SP2. My current 80G HDD over five years old is probably about to fail. Most HDDs available are much bigger that 80G, so would a 160 or bigger be OK?

If it's the MSI KT3V series board then it has no problem handling bigger than 160Gb - I have a 250Gb on one that I use as a hobby PC. Note that it only takes PATA drives & these are becoming a bit scarce.

It's one of the KT4V flavors. A larger drive is fine for this board.

Thanks both of you for your help. My MS-6712 is a KT4V based on VIA Apollo KT400 North Bridge and VT8235 South Bridge (that is what is says in the manual, although I am not a computer techie so I am not sure what those chipset numbers really mean). So I will try out a 250G HDD and as I have just made a full computer backup using Acronis 2010 Home Image I hope I can then clone the failing drive's data and system on to the new HDD.

Since my post earlier today I found I have a new still sealed Hitachi Deskstar 320GB HDD. Do you think this would be OK instead of a 250GB disc on the MS 6712 KT 4V?
