1) If your motherboard supports LBA then enabling that should increase the max size of your hard drive.
2) A BIOS update for your motherboard. This will sometimes increase the HD capacity some.
3) Software drivers such as Maxtor's Maxblast can be used to overcome BIOS size limitations for hard drives

First, I already have an 850Mb HD which recently failed, and I want to replace it with as large a HD as I can. Also, I'm a novice in computers and I'm not sure what LBA and overlay programs are. Since the computer is a clone, I don't have the benefit of checking a manufacturer's website; so perhaps it would be best to start by identifying the motherboard and BIOS, but of course this is just my guess. How could I identify these? Is there a way to find the maximum supported HD size from the BIOS?
