Dogs are great.

MY HTPC that I was setting up in my lounge room (on the floor in front of the TV while i was testing) was using an old logitech wireless KB/mouse duo. Because the signal is so weak on these there is only like a 4 foot range so i had the reciever box run across the floor.

Anyway, short story long, the dog chewed through the cord. Now this is no problem to solder back up etc, but what i wanted to know is:

What is the MAX length for a cord for a USB powered device (as in power is drawn from the USB port, not a powerpoint like my new one)?

If i can lengthen this cord while im at it, it will save me a little bit of hassle.

Thanks guys
-Matt

USB specifications limit cable length to 5 meters (a little under 16 feet 5 inches) for full speed devices, and three meters (9 feet, 10 inches) for low speed devices.

Never mind, for those interested the max length of a standard USB 1.1 or 2.0 cable is 5 metres, this can be extended using certain device (like repeaters, powered hubs, USB to CAT5 converters etc) but for my need i think 5 metres will be plenty.

One thing i could not find was wether extending the cord to a wireless reciever would interfere with the KB/mouse operation (Timing issues or lag) anyone have experience with this?
