Hello: how can i find out the max hard drive size i can replace my old 4 gb hdd with? original is eide type. hp customer service does not know, so i thought someone here might. have been told that older machine like mine will only take 8 gb, which is fine, i just need to know before i buy one. any advice welcome.. thanks for your time.... mike young... ( model # is:d7306a in the hp pavillion 6355 series )

If you get a PCI IDE adapter card, you may be able to use a very large HDD and run at ATA133.

If you use a drive overlay program (comes on CD with new HDD), you can go as big as you want...or better yet, get an IDE controller card to bump up your data transfer rate to ATA100...your board probably only handles ATA33, THEN add a new HDD

Hello again: dont want to replace any cards, etc. speed now is fine the way it is. just want to replace current 4 gb hard drive with one a little larger. only using 1.5 gb of current drive now. want to replace and clone before any trouble starts. i need to know how to find out what size i can go to without any bios updates, etc. trying to keep it simple... thanks for your time.. mike young....

Tough question then...even HP support can't answer it! Maybe someone else in this forum has that exact computer with that exact same BIOS and has tried larger and larger HDDs until they found one that wouldn't work.
