Comment:
I have a dell XPS-210 with 1Gb DDR2 Ram (2x512mb). My PC has 4 slots for memory. The manual states that "DDR2 memory should be installed in pairs of matched memory size, speed and technology".
I was going to fill the remaining 2 slots with the the same 2x 512mb sticks that are already there to total 2gb. Does anyone know if i can install 2x 1gb sticks in the remaining slots instead to get be to 3gb total? If I'm going to fill all 4 slots do all four sticks need to be of the same size?
I suggest you go to Crucial.com and check with thier online configurator to determine what RAM you can add. Usually you can add different sized pairs but they should be the same speed RAM. Much of it depends on the capacity of your MBoard. You also need to read the computer manual to verify which slots are actually pairs. Your MBoard should have two memory controllers and the RAM can dun it dual channel mode if installed correctly. Dual channel mode increase memory bandwidth.
Dell computers can be fussy about the memory they will run. Crucial guarantees their RAM to work if you buy what they recommend.
