I upgraded to the Gigabyte 7x motherboard 6 months back, and I have been seeing the blue screen 3 times a day. I upgraded to linux and it still hangs, reinstalled windows about 4 times, downgraded to 98 went back to 2000, still the computer hangs.
I tried running bios upgrades, motherboard upgrades. Still no luck!
Ran memtest, changed memory didnt help
Then I changed from my AGP geforce 4 to an s3 pci 4mb card and the computer didnt have much problems.
Then i went back to another AGP card (not the old one) the problems started apperaing again. I started getting blue screen with IRQL errors, and also STOP errors with NTOSKRNL.exe. Sometimes the computer would just reboot by itself.
I have tried installing windows 2000 as a standerd PC and disabling the ACPI and letting the motherboard control the IRQ, still no help.
A little about my machine:
AMD 1900+ CPU
(1) 128 133mhz + (1) 256 133 Mhz Memory module
Geforce 4 128 Mb
3 hard disks (20Gb, 40Gb, 60Gb)
Network Card(sis)
Soundcard (soundblaster live)I have also tried installing a raid controller, still no joy.
If anybody ever finds a solution to this problem, it would be MUCH appreciated,
thanks.
Krish

Hi Krish.
Here is a website that has recommended BIOS settings for GeForce AGP cards.

Here is another website that has recommended BIOS settings for various computer functions. It is a different motherboard than yours, but maybe you can get an idea for something that will help you.

Thank Linda,
I tried the following but dont seem to help,
I found out what my motherboards exact model is, its a Gigabyte GA-7ZXE.

Hi Krish.
Do you have a powerful enough power supply?3 hard drives and an AGP card might require more power.
Also do you have enough fans to cool off the system?
I found this concerning power issues with some Gigabyte MBs (your MB isn't listed though) and AGP power usage -

I found this concerning the NTOSKRNL error.

Thanks again linda,
My power is 350W so i guess it should be okay. The heat could be a problem, right now my TEMP is 91C/195F. I do have a CPU fan but no system fan, and by GFX card (which I dont use any more becuase win2k crashes more often with it) has a fan in itself.
Really appreciate your help.
The NTOSKRNL.exe error I narrowed down to some hardware issues, then I removed component by component.
Whaat i did to test this was, Win2K setup always crashed with a blue screen. So i removed component by component and went throuhg setup, and the only time it cleared was when I removed the AGP card. But even though setup went through and the crashes are less frequent than before (up to 8 times a day) it still crashes about 3 times a day.
thanks again,
Krish
