We got a computer in May 2001. It is an AMD Athlon 1.33 GHz, Asus A7M266 motherboard, 256 MB DDR 2100, Maxtor 40 GB 7200 hard drive, Pioneer 16x40 DVD Rom, Plextor 12x10x32 CD-RW IDE, GeForce 2 DDR Deluxe and Windows 2000 Pro. About 6 months after having the computer it started beeping. It was a continual beep, beep, beep and the computer would not boot up. We sent it back. They could not find anything wrong with it. Then when we got it back it would not turn on at all. All the fans were running, but the computer would not boot up. We finally got it running and then it started freezing on us, during boot up. Then it would not boot at all. All the fans would be running but the monitor did not detect the computer being on. A shop replace the motherboard and it still did the same thing. Another shop told us that the new motherboard was dead. So we are in the process of getting another motherboard. What could be doing this if it is not motherboard problems. Should we have them replace the power supply? What else could we do? I would appreciate any help. Thanks!

Replacing the power supply sure sounds like a logical step. It sure is a lot cheaper than replacing mobo's.

The motherboards are still under waranty. The company has replaced both so far, but I don't want to go through that hassle again.

As I mentioned in a post just before this, there were a number of problems in motherboards at about the time you first got your computer. The usual sympton was the same as if there were no memory installed--no video but the fans ran.
Anything is possible, but a power supply seems less likely--unless you notice the booting process hanging particularly on the empty floppy drive as the light comes on during boot up.

A power supply may be a good bet, especially if one of the origianl one's connector pins are scrunched up inside the plastic connector pod. I've seen this happen and was able to fix the connector with a good steel dental pick.
Also, your system could be having a "short" by an improperly attached motherboard. A bad drive cable or worse yet, a bad power cable or connector pin from an attached device could be the problem. Check for loose wires and connectors dangling around in the case.

A computer shop put in the new motherboard and they used their power cable. When we sent it back to the company, when we had the first problem, they used their own power cable also.

Er, I would just demand a refund really. Talk about goods not fit for purpose!
Oh, hang on. Actually I remember my computer doing that beep beep beep when my graphics card was slightly out of its AGP holder one time. Check all your cards are correctly slotted into their holders. Might explain the fact that the system is turning on, but no display, AND error message.
Just a thought.
