It sounds like you may be in a little over your head. Why not find someone local to help you out.

I believe we already went thru all this. Do yourself a favor this time & stick to a single thread.

You state that you have "Hd's and Cd drives"...start by keeping it simple.

- install only one HDD. Make sure the jumper on the rear of the drive is properly set to Master. Do NOT use Cable Select. Some HDDs have a separate jumper setting for Master (single) or Master (w/slave). If you have one of these, make sure to set the jumper for Master (single).

- install only ONE CD drive. Make sure the jumper on the rear of the drive is properly set to Master. Do NOT use Cable Select.

- check that your IDE cables are connected correctly. The HDD should be connected to the primary channel...the CD drive should be connected to the 2ndary channel. Make sure that they are connected to the end plug, not the middle. *Most* IDE cable plugs have a raised center "tooth" that corresponds with a "notch" in the IDE connector...this prevents the plug from being connected upside down. Here's a pic:

If your cables don't have that, look for the red stripe on the IDE cable. Here's a pic:

Make sure that the striped side goes to the #1 pin.

- the floppy cable is similar to the IDE cable. Either line up the "tooth" with the "notch", or look for the red stripe. With the floppy cable, the end with the twist MUST connect to the floppy drive. Here's a pic:

- once you've double checked all that, boot up & go into the BIOS. Check that all your drives are properly recognized. While you're there, check all your other BIOS settings & adjust as necessary. Save the settings & exit.

- partition & format your HDD using the HDD manufacturer's software or the XP CD, then reinstall Windows...then post back about not having device drivers...lol

You'll need to reinstall Windows with your XP CD.

"cable was wrong"

So... this was the computer you'd claimed had been "looked at by 'experts'"?

Imagine that

NTLDR is missing

I'm not one of those who think Bill Gates is the devil. I simply suspect that if Microsoft ever met up with the devil, it wouldn't need an interpreter.
