OS: XP
CPU/Ram: 6000+ / 4 GB
Product: AMD / Corsair
Comment:

I have an AMD 6000+, 4 GB of Corsair TWIN2X2048-6400c4 G, XFX 8800 GTS 640, 2 x 80 GB Seagate SATA, 1 x 320 GB Seagate SATA, Thermaltake 750 watt PSU, Thermaltkake Soprano case a tuner/capture card and a SATA DVD Burner.

I want to upgade my current mainboard GA-M55SLI-S4. I want to go to a AM2+ board ready to upgrade the CPU, I know of the limit of the HT with AM2 on a AM2+ board. What I am after is a mainboard that can offer

6 + SATA
Audio
SLI
e-SATA
2 IDE (not including FDD)
Accepts AM2 and AM2+
And all the above components mentioned.

I have looked around and they either support ATI Crossfire and I was told you can not SLI on a mainboard like that, is that true ?
I have been told certain mainboards would be good but they could not confirm if the board will take all 4 gig of RAM.

Any suggestions.

I see no reason to upgrade the board...wait until you're ready to upgrade the CPU. By then, board prices will have changed & there may even be different chipsets available. The current Phenoms have an L3 cache problem anyway...the "fixed" versions will be released soon. Best to avoid them for the time being.

You're not gonna find a top of the line board with two IDE channels. The vast majority only offer one & some don't have any. The floppy channel is being eliminated on many boards as well. Some boards have 2 DIMM slots, some have 4, some have more. And in case you weren't aware, 4GB is the max for a 32-bit OS, but it will be reported as less. You're gonna have to do your homework to see what's available.

Crossfire is for ATI cards only, SLi is for nVidia cards only. Most people will tell you that running two cards is a complete waste of money...I agree. You'll have double the cost, double the heat & double the load on the PSU, but no where near double the performance.

It's your money....
