im not sure where this belongs so ill post it in here. ok, my dvd player is close to my tv and i decided to move it cause i dont need it anymore, while i was lifting it, someone called me so i played it on top of my tv. while i was done putting my dvd player away, i turned on my tv. AHHHHH the top and sides of my tv are all colored screwed up my the metal of the dvd player!!! plz help me fix my tv cause my tv is as imporant in my life as my girlfriend ^^

Do you have a manual for the TV? Does it have any instructions on DEGAUSSING
Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day.
Teach him to fish and his wife will never forgive you.

I guess of any forum in COMPUTING.NET, this is probably the closest.
I cannot see how your DVD player could cause this problem. DVDs use laser technology, not magnetism. The only source of magnetism in a DVD is the very small transformer in the unit's power supply.
Metal does not affect your TV's display (technically it does, but not in any major way). Magnetic fields indeed do. Did you also move speakers or perhaps a telephone close to the TV?
If so, moving them away will fix most problems.

It's not the end of the world.
Its fixable, sort of, maybe. You just "magnetized" your screen, and you don't want that.
What you need is a big ass magnet to "pull" or "wipe" the spot away, use caution or you'll make it worse, or a degaussing coil.
Check this out:

Discolored areas on the screen are usually caused by some type of magnetic interference, such as external speakers or electrical motors. We recommend that you place any stereo speakers at least two feet from the TV. Color spots can also appear if the TV is temporarily exposed to a strong electric motor, such as a vacuum cleaner or refrigerator. Use the POWER key to switch-off the TV and move any possible magnets away. Wait for a few minutes, then switch-on the TV. This will demagnetize the screen. Maybe.
Good luck.
Cheers.

Most TVs have a Degaussing circuit built into the TV that works each time you turn on the TV. If your doesn't work that way try smacking both sides of the case simultaneously. That is what I did for awile when the degaussing circuit was broken. Worked too.

""""try smacking both sides of the case"""
Oh, yeah, that'll work.
You really don't want to use a MAGNET to try to degauss your TV, what you really want is an AC powered electromagnet, if you have an old (Weller) soldering gun, or a bulk tape erasor, you could try that.
Something else with an AC coil might work, you need something with a transformer in there.
You might just live with it for a week or two, everytime you turn on the TV it should Degauss. There may even be a menu setting to activate the Degauss circuit.
Otherwise, if the TV is worthwhile, you could actually call a TV serviceman to come by.
Or, you could just smack the case. If it doesn't break your hands. . . . . .

I had a TV that I had to do that until I could get it fixed. It actually did work. You need to find where to hit and how hard. That TV was old and had a wooden case. Had to smak the crap out of it. You know the old saying, if it won't go, get a bigger hammer.

rimfire, you have 2 electric motors in cd/dvd drives with each motor having a permanent magnet in it & also there is a magnet in the top or the spin motor that prevents disk from slipping during spin
david

You're right Dave. I did forget about the two drive motors. I'll be sure to memorise that. Magnetic clamping!? I've never seen anything except mechanical clamping mech's with a spring.
Regardless, I was pointing out that the magnetic field generated by a DVD player isn't going to cause the problems reported and to check for other sources.
Until aaa reports back, we're all speculating.

ahhhhh! there is a god!!! i turned my tv off for about 10 mins and then poof!!! all better now. thanxs for your help anyway but i have god on my side ^^ im jp
