machine not recognizing sata drive

I have another computer with a gigabyte 8inxp motherboard.
I have installed an additional drive which is sata with the main drive an ide.

When I hook the power to the sata drive and the data line from the mother board from SATA 1 it boots up to the point of Primary Channel ST3750640AS and stops the boot process.

With the power disconnected from the SATA drive the boot process completes.

Any suggestions?

Enter bios and set the drive order so the ide drive is the first boot drive.

In the bios I have the ide drive as the first, the cdrom next, and then floppy.

I have the sata set as sata and think that I have all the correct places enabled.

Thanks for your consideration. I will keep working at it.

Thank you very much.

Try setting the sata drive to ide mode if it's not set that way already.

If I look at the bios settings on the first line I have a choice of SATA/RAID/SCSI for the boot order. I have chosen SATA. Of course there is nothing on the SATA drive yet as it will not complete the boot process but stops at the primary channel which is the SATA 750 G hard disk.

The boot process sees the IDE drive and correctly identifies it. It also correctly identifies the SATA drive but then the boot process stops.

There should be an option in the bios where you can select whether the sata drive operates in ide, raid, or ahci mode.
