Hi
I need help. I am not very good with computers so I would appreciate any help I can get. When I try to print anything I get an error message saying no communication with LPT1 port. I have unistalled the printer software and reinstalled it. I have purchased a new cable, I have checked everythig is connected properly. I have checked in the printer properties that it is all going to the LPT1 port and now I have no idea. I have an epsom stylus 480 printer and I am at my wits end. Please help me.

G'day,

If you are sure that you have done all those things, have you thought about the printer.
That error message might mean that the printer is not responding.
Try to connect a printer that you know works, and see what happens.
Another thing, make sure that LPT1 is at the address of the port you have it connected to.
regards,
Elric

Has that printer, or any other printer, ever printed while connected to the port it is now connected to? The first thing to try is to open device manager and see if you have a printer port labeled LPT 1 installed and it is functioning properly. If so then you need to try capturing the port. Go to: Start> settings> printers> right click the named printer> Properties> Details> Capture printer port. If that doesn't solve the problem you will need to enter the computer BIOS. Before you do that you will need to gleen some information from the properties page. On the details page open the button called port settings and write down the type of port the printer requires. Now, re-boot your machine and read the first screens carefully. You are looking for the keystroke required to enter the BIOS. Many machines use the delete key but there are other keystrokes. If the screens go by too fast try hitting pause or scroll lock. After you get into the BIOS you will need to navigate the screens. Your mouse won't work there. The keys to use are Enter, Escape, Page Up/Dn, and the Arrow keys. What you are looking for are references for LPT 1 enabled or disabled. After you enable with Pg. up/dn. Choos the type of printer port you wrote down. Save and Exit. Finish booting. Windows will then install the port.
