I just bought a new computer and after noticing that the pc wa running slower than it should be i looked at the size of the ram under my computer then into properties, it should be 512 but it is only 448. so i borrowed a friends stick of ram who has the exact same computer and it still showed up as 448. i then swaped power supplies but still have the same 448 of ram, can anyone help?

I believe that some of your ram is allocated to system use and will not show. I have 1 gig of ram and my system will not report all of it either.(of course I am probly wrong thats just my opinion.)

I agree with Polizi, the system is probably using some of your ram. Quick question, are you using integrated graphics on your computer? and if so, is your graphics 64mbs?

If it is, then there is the reason. If you are using integrated graphics, the motherboard will allocate a set amount of memory to use for the graphics from the system's main pool of memory, (aka RAM). An easy fix would be to get a graphics card and then turn off the integrated graphics option in your bios settings. That should put you back up to the 512mbs of ram.

Hope that helps!

George

"the pc wa running slower than it should be"

why?? 448mb, 512mb, pretty similar. maybe you need to perform maintenance. adware/spyware/virus scans, "cleaning", defrag...

vistit my web site for recommended software

anyway if you have integrated video then that is why it means that some of the RAM is being allocated for video-only useage. check you BIOS settings for any type of RAM useage configuration settings...

Do you have onboard graphics? It seems that 64Mb is probably being allocated to onboard graphics so your system only shows as 448. So as polizi said it is allocated to the system and dosent show up.

well thats why. get a decent graphics card, i recommend.

your system shoudnt be running "slow", 448 megsis almost 512mb, and that isnt a hell of a lot of differance in comps these days. as i already said i recommend some maintenance. my web page has some highly recommended software for adware/spyware/virus scan and removal, "cleaning", etc
