Comment: Everytime i boot up the computer I am met with a noise as if something in the computer it running harder then it normal should. I have checked the forum with questions about possibly a fan going out, but here is what I checked. 1. I tried a new PSU (Power Supply Unit) and the noise stayed the same. 2. I disconnected the fan on my Graphic Card and same, still noise 3. I disconnect the Front Intake fan, still same. 4. I disconnected the fan over the processor and that didn't take care of the noise either. 5. I also disconnected my second backup HD to see if maybe that was going out with little luck again. Now after checking all my system fans. I thought I would try something. So i removed the graphic card and smelled it right were the fan is. It has a faint smell of either burnt or heat. I can not tell for sure, i think burning..over heating.. But heres my question. Could a video card if going out, make a loud noise on the system. Or what else could bemaking it? Like i said the nose isnt annoying.. itsjust a louder running sound like somethings over working.

Reply: (edit)I hope you reconnected the processor fan. could it be the power supply itself, not just the PS fan? The PS is a transformer and rectifier. Transformers can make buzzing noises. Especially if overloaded. When the system is shutdown try spinning the fans with your finger. Fans should move easily. If fans are dirty they are off balance and can make noise. Harddrives sometimes are noisy. The movement of the heads on some drives is fairly loud. When first booting up the drives are accessed more than at most other times. Finally, if your system is set to boot to the floppy drive first the floppy drive will search for a disk at startup. This is noisy also.

Reply: (edit)Well i should state that the noise isnt just on boot up but it continues there after. My computer use to be fairly quiet and not run so hard and loud.. but I had 2 power outages that caused the computer to go out without warning. One was a fan that got turned off on the other side of the room. As soon as it got powered off,the tower shut down and wouldnt come back on till i removed thepower cord and reattached. Second was a power grid in my town going down and i lost power. but just to the tower again. A few blocks went out and then my computer blinked and shut off the same exact time. As for the PS, i did try another one and that one made just as much noise. I havent installed anymore items into the computer since i put it together and it was working fine then. I have a 450w ATX fit power supply. Connected to that I have an 1.8 ghz AMD Athlon, 512 pc 2100 Ram. (2) harddrives. 14 and 40 gigs. 1 dvd rom, and 1 cdrw. On board I have a 64mb Vid Card and Sound Card. Any more ideas? All are welcome.
