Is this a Windows password or or a system password that appears as soon as you turnt he computer on.

If it is the former you need to acquire and new OS CD and reinstall the OS

If it is the latter the only thing you can do is contact Dell and hope they can help you. Be prepared to prove ownership

Laptops have password that are far more secure than those you found on desktops because they are so easily stolen.

I find it strange that you didn't at least check that the computer was working before you bought it. I wouldn't pay good money for a computer who's condition I had no idea about.

Send it to Dell most likely. They charge $130 or so to remove passwords.

Hang up and live.

Before buying a hard drive try booting with a CD or USB stick.

re-install the OS? send it to Dell? !??

Get a Windows PE environment with a locksmith type tool - like the one included in ERD Commander

this is such a silly fix - i am surprised it hasn't been suggested already

let me know if you need more direction - i've been using ERD Command 2003 for many years and it works perfectly on every Windows OS (7, 2008, Vista, etc, etc)

For the simple reason that it wont work on a laptop. We are not talking about Software passwords, but passwords embedded in the hardware. There is a huge difference.

Reinstall the OS would solve a Windows password problem is that is all it is.
