Specs: Windows xp home
I have a cd for the reinstallof windows xp professional and a cd for drivers and utitilites for the other Dell computer. But the one with trouble is Windows xp Home edition and I don't have those cd.

Problem is the computer will only go to a black screen with the message on it\. when I put the cd (for the other computer in ) I can't get it to start from cd

The reason your PC won't boot from the CD is probably because you haven't made "CD-ROM" the FIRST BOOT DEVICE in the BIOS Setup.

To get into the BIOS Setup, look at the bottom of the splash screen when you switch it on - it will tell you which key you need to press for BIOS Setup.
It's often the 'Del' key or 'F2'
